RULES AND REGULATIONS OF
ECONOMICS DEAN TROPHY ENGLISH COMPETITION
(SHORT STORY WRITING)



Competition description
Economics Dean Trophy English Competition 2012 - Short Story Writing Competition is a faculty-level competition which provides a chance for participants to improve their writing abilities and show their true spirit of expressing their imagination.

Short Story Writing General Rules

1.                  Participants must be Economics students.

2.                  The theme is free up to the participant (e.g : love, friendship).

3.                  Entries must be written in English.

4.                  Entries must be 1200 words-2,000 words (fiction story or creative non-fiction), font Times New Roman 12, space 1.5.

5.                  Entries must be original (no plagiarism).

6.                  Entries must not contain any SARA and violence.

7.                  Short Story Writing must be submitted in hardcopy and softcopy). Hardcopy should be submitted directly at E-Detect Hall (to the committee) and softcopy should be submitted via email to efec.unsoed@gmail.com. Don’t forget to attach your name, student number, and majoring.

8.                  Winning stories will be posted and announced on EFEC blog and Rendezvous.

9.                  Deadline submission : November 28th 2012.

10.              Failure to observe these rules will result in disqualification.


Judgement Criteria

1.                  Originality and creativity (what makes the story significant?)

2.                  Structure (organisation, plot and setting, presentation)

3.                  Expression (connection with the reader, dialogue, narration)

(NEWSCASTING FIELD)
 
 
Competition description
Economics Dean Trophy English Competition 2012 - Newscasting Competition is a faculty-level competition which provides a chance for participants to improve their speaking abilities and show their true spirit of expressing information as news caster.

Competition format
There are 5 competition phases: Preliminary Round 1, Preliminary Round 2, Quarter Final Round, Semi Final Round, and Grand Final Round.

Newscasting General Rules
1.       Each contestant must arrive at the designated room at least 15 minutes before the competition starts.
2.       Each contestant will be called 3 times when their turn comes before considered as walk-out.
3.       Dress accordingly for every round: formal dress included shirt, pants, shoes. No sandals and t-shirt allowed.
4.       Before the competition, contestants will get briefing about the rules by the coordinator.
5.       Contestants should remain in the designated room until they are called to perform their performance.
6.       After performing, contestants must join the audience.
7.       The coordinator will introduce each contestant by announcing the contestant’s name and news title.
8.       All contestants will speak from the same platform or area designated from any position and are not limited to stand at the lectern or podium.
9.       There will be one minute of silence between contestants during which the judges will mark their ballots.
Judges may also disqualify a speaker for ineligibility.
