ECONOMICS DEAN TROPHY ENGLISH COMPETITION
(NEWSCASTING FIELD)
 
 
Competition description
Economics Dean Trophy English Competition 2012 - Newscasting Competition is a faculty-level competition which provides a chance for participants to improve their speaking abilities and show their true spirit of expressing information as news caster.

Competition format
There are 5 competition phases: Preliminary Round 1, Preliminary Round 2, Quarter Final Round, Semi Final Round, and Grand Final Round.

Newscasting General Rules
1.       Each contestant must arrive at the designated room at least 15 minutes before the competition starts.
2.       Each contestant will be called 3 times when their turn comes before considered as walk-out.
3.       Dress accordingly for every round: formal dress included shirt, pants, shoes. No sandals and t-shirt allowed.
4.       Before the competition, contestants will get briefing about the rules by the coordinator.
5.       Contestants should remain in the designated room until they are called to perform their performance.
6.       After performing, contestants must join the audience.
7.       The coordinator will introduce each contestant by announcing the contestant’s name and news title.
8.       All contestants will speak from the same platform or area designated from any position and are not limited to stand at the lectern or podium.
9.       There will be one minute of silence between contestants during which the judges will mark their ballots.
Judges may also disqualify a speaker for ineligibility.

(DEBATE FIELD)

1.   Each Students activity Units (HIMA) must send minimally one team
2. The tournament will have maximally 20 teams
3. The debaters are eligible to participate in E-DETECT , only if they are enrolled as active students ,2010,2011,2012 intake, proven with student card
4.  Each team consists three  members that must be enrolled in the same majoring.
5.  Student  who  ever  joined inter-faculty, inter-varsity,  or  other  higher  level  english debate  competitions  are not allowed  to  join  as  participant  in  this  tournament  (e.g.  IFDC, JOVED,  IVED,  BAWOR  CUP, SEO, etc)
6. Every participant should wear polite outfit
7.  E-DETECT uses Asian Parliamentary  System. The system  will  be conducted  in two phases :
a)  The Preliminary Phase
b)  The Elimination Phase
8.  In the preliminary phase, there will be 3 rounds. This phase will adopt “the break and slide system”, and for the elimination phase will adopt “true power match”. (Those systems will be explained later in tournament)
9.  The following grading criteria will be considered in decreasing order of priority :
1). Victory Points (Win-Loss Record; 1 point for a win 0  
    for a loss).
2). Cumulative Total Team Score
3). Cumulative  Margin  (Difference  of  cumulative  marks 
    in  favor of and against the team)
10.       The top of eight teams at the end of rounds of the preliminary phase will qualify for the elimination phase
11. Elimination phase will follow the sequence :
-         Quarter final (eight teams)
-         Semi final (four teams)
-         Grand final (two teams)
12.There would be no additional time for motion preference and case building for those who are late
13.No electronic devices which can be used by debater during the case building and debate session, example: cell phone, laptop, etc. (only electronic dictionary that is allowed)
14.Each debater will deliver a substantive speech of seven (7) minutesduration. After three of them have come forward, reply speaker of both sides will deliver their reply speech for four (4) minutes. The third speaker from both sides is forbid to act as reply speaker
15.There would be no replacement of debater in case one member of a team can not join the match. The uncompleted team can only consist of two members that may compete in preliminary round and automatically not eligible to join the elimination round.
16.A team  will  suffer walked out  (WO) for the absence in maximally  15 minutes latenessafter debate session opened.
17. Debater is not allowed to leave debate room during the match
18.Adjudicator’s decision can not be changed
19.E-DETECT will use half motions release. Half of motions will be launched at 21th of October for the prepared motions in www.efecunsoed.blogspot.com. The  rest  would  be impromtu motions, motions that will be launched in the tournament.
